History of CRF Health - ePRO industry leader

Since CRF Health, then CRF Box, was founded in 2000 by Timo Ahopelto, Jaakko Ollila, and Jarkko Joki-Tokola the company has remained dedicated to driving the ePRO (electronic Patient Reported Outcomes) industry forward.
Established in Helsinki, Finland, the European center for mobile technology, CRF Health’s heritage is deep in innovation and excellence in technology.

Since its founding, the staff has grown from three to over 100 people located across the globe. Our headquarters is now in Philadelphia, USA; we operate our Research & Development Center of Excellence from Helsinki, Finland, and have other offices around the world.

2000

  • CRF Box founded by Timo Ahopelto, Jaakko Ollila, and Jarkko Joki-Tokola in August 2000, Helsinki, Finland
  • First product version launched in collaboration with Orion Pharma
  • First customer delivery to a Finnish pharmaceutical company
  • Opened 1st U.S. location in Cambridge, MA
   
2001
  • First mobile clinical trials in industry, first global support infrastructure; Product deployed in 5 countries with over 20,000 patients
   
2002
  • Novartis Irritable Bowel Syndrome Trial: largest in industry, 5000 patients in 23 countries
  • Initiated: TrialMax® Productization
   
2002 - 2004
  • Won Tornado 100 Award three years in a row (annually lists 100 best-performing and innovative high-tech private companies in Europe and Israel)
  • Formed partnership with TechTeam® for global MultiLingual HelpDesk support
   
2003
  • Launched TrialMax®
  • Established U.S. headquarters in Waltham in 2003
   
2004
  • Received GSK’s ‘Most Innovative Use of Technology’ Award
  • TrialMax®, won the ‘Most Productive Idea’ award in the Business category of the 26th annual Junior Chamber International-Finland Productive Idea competition (October)
  • CRF Inc. set new industry experience record – eDiaries used by more than 85,000 patients across 55 countries in 42 languages (December)
  • Partnered with SimulTrans® for translation and localization services
   
2005
  • Conducted global trials in 57 countries, 52 languages
  • Received Red Herring 100 Europe, a selection of the 100 private companies in Europe and Israel that play a leading role in innovation and technology
  • Opened Lansdale, PA office (Philadelphia region)
  • Opened London, UK office (Sept/Oct)
   
2006
  • Launched next innovations to TrialMax® Platform: integrated with medical monitoring devices
   
2007
  • TrialStudio® Designer: first fully licensed tool for sponsor trial design, pilot tested in Q4 2007
  • TrialMax® supports Windows Mobile® Operating System: PDAs, mini-tablets, tablets
  • TrialMax® integration with medication management devices: drug tracking bar code reader
   
2008
  • Appointed new CEO Rachael King (October)
  • Officially released Microsoft Windows Mobile® Device Support
